Senator Lankford Provides Information for Panhandle Residents to Register Comments on Proposed Gaming Complex

To help Panhandle Oklahoma residents voice their opinions regarding the possible construction of a gaming complex, Senator James Lankford (R-OK) is providing Oklahomans with contact information for the Bureau of Indian Affairs. In February, the Shawnee Tribe of Oklahoma announced a proposal to build a gaming center near Guymon.

"It is vitally important that the Bureau of Indian Affairs act in the most transparent manner possible and ensure that the views of the Panhandle residents -- both for and against the proposed gaming complex -- are heard," said Lankford. "This decision should be made on the facts, a careful review of the unique history of 'Unassigned Lands' in Oklahoma and a thorough assessment of the economic and social impact on the entire Panhandle community. The final determination will have a lasting impact on the region, so it should not be made in haste. I will continue to closely monitor the issue and work to make sure the perspective of local leaders and residents are clearly understood throughout the process."

In January, Lankford was sworn in as the eighteenth Senator from Oklahoma after serving two terms in the U.S. House of Representatives, representing Central Oklahoma. Among his four Committee assignments in the Senate, Lankford serves on the Committee on Indian Affairs.
